How to Ensure Your Employees Are Engaged

How to Ensure Your Employees Are Engaged

Every business has at least one employee who seems to drag their feet along the floor more than they get their heads down and undertake their work. Those employees aren’t necessarily lazy, they just might not be as well engaged as the others. If you feel that you could do more to ensure your employees are engaged at all times, take a look at some of the below tips you can implement.

Exercise and Sporting Activities

Your employees could be a lot more active not just in their own time, but also in the workplace. This doesn’t mean you should enforce rules to get employees out of their seat to do laps around the office – it just means you can organize a monthly sporting activity or something similar. Such activities won’t only help your employees exercise, but it will help your team form a bond that could help increase efficiency significantly. Take a look at how sport can improve employee engagement – Zest is known for its employee benefits program but also has a number of articles on how you can increase productivity in the workplace.

How to Ensure Your Employees Are Engaged

Recognise Hardworking Employees

If certain employees are hitting more targets than others, or you can see for yourself how hard working they are, then there’s nothing wrong in recognising it publicly. Monthly staff awards along with cash bonuses always go down a treat. It will make other employees think twice about their current working attitude and may well change it if they are getting recognised for hard work.

Get to Know Your Employees

One of the best ways to ensure your employees are engaged is to get to know them. You don’t need to do this by inviting them home for a cooked tea after work – just having a chat with them on a regular basis will suffice. Even simply asking them how their weekend was or what they got up to is a good way to get the conversation flowing. Your employees will feel like they are loved and, more often than not, will work hard just because you’ve spent the time to make conversation with them.

Create a Happy Workplace

Just because you are the boss, doesn’t mean you have to act like one. Granted, there still needs to be a line, but there’s nothing wrong with getting involved in the banter to help your employees feel a little bit laid back. Of course, this could have the opposite affect and turn them into the laziest employees possible, but if it creates a good working environment for others and everyone’s happy, this should definitely be considered.

How to Ensure Your Employees Are Engaged

Implement the Right Training

Lack of training is one of the biggest reasons why so many employees aren’t engaged. If they don’t know what they are doing or what they could be doing if they’ve completed their tasks, then they are going to try and get away with doing nothing. Ensure you always have the right training programs in place so your employees can grow and feel a lot more comfortable in knowing what they have to do at all times.

Of course, if employees aren’t able to help themselves to ensure they’re engaged – there isn’t much more you can do than the above. However, if you do spend time getting to know your employees, and you try to keep them as active as possible, you’re going to have a much better chance of increasing productivity throughout the workplace. If you feel you’ve done enough to ensure your employees are engaged but it still hasn’t worked, it could be time to part ways and employ people who are more efficient.
