Andrea Bebirian: Recycle and Sell Apple Devices

Apple has revolutionized the tech industry with the introduction of various exciting products. Their iPhone, iPods and Mac computers have won legions of fans around the world.

To keep up with its innovator status and ward off competitors, Apple continues to update their product lines annually with new and exciting technology that interests the majority of the consumer market. As a result, product revisions from Apple result in a big number of users trying to sell their devices, either to upgrade their existing electronics or to earn extra cash.

When selling their Apple devices, customers face the issue of wasting valuable time accompanying the process. Most owners of Apple devices settle for a price that is too low because they are faced with scammers, endure costly online listing fees, or cannot find a buyer fast enough. Others simply throw away their devices as a quick solution.

In 2007, 205.5 million computers were disposed, with only 18% being recycled. Moreover, 140.3 million phones were trashed, with only 10% of those units being recycled. Because of these statistics, hazardous waste has driven the United States to spend millions of dollars to recover harmful elements within landfills to avoid harming the environment.

Andrea Bebirian saw an opportunity and started her business, Take My Mac http://takemymac.com/. Take My Mac is an eco-friendly and free service that buys Apple devices from consumers looking to sell their electronics immediately.

Take My Mac eliminates the hassle of selling a new, used, or damaged iPhone, Mac, iPod, or other Apple device without worry. After the consumer is paid for selling their Apple product, they safely recycle devices, provide devices to beneficial causes such as to schools or new aspiring startup businesses, or seek out other sources that can benefit from these electronics. Her service offers a green guarantee that absolutely no devices go to waste!

We interviewed Bebirian about her new service Take My Mac:

What inspired you to start your business?

What inspired me to start this company was to provide a solution to owners of Apple devices with a smoother process of selling their electronics in a faster, easier, and more satisfying manner. With the all the time and frustration that is put into selling an Apple device, sometimes it isn’t worth it. I’ve known people who couldn’t sell their iPhones for weeks because they kept encountering scams, were not willing to pay fees for selling their devices online, and were tired with all the effort they were putting into trying to land their iPhones in a new home. With Take My Mac, we buy all Apple devices for an excellent price to the customer on the spot without worry of being turned down for what they have to offer.

Additionally, Take My Mac pursues the goal of keeping this earth cleaner and lessening the impact of e-waste. This means that if you have a broken iPhone or an old iBook, please don’t throw it out! We will take it and recycle it accordingly so we can do our part to promote a better environment. With over 128 million cell phones being trashed in 2007, Take My Mac is trying to reduce this terrifying statistic.

What did you do in your previous life?

Previously, I created websites for clients and worked at a used car dealership as an online inventory manager.

What has been the most challenging part about starting your own business?

The most challenging part about starting a business is trying to spread the good word about who you are, what you do, and how your service benefits the community. However, we will be working towards many marketing goals that will hopefully gain the attention of those who belong in the Apple niche.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far in starting and running a business?

The biggest lesson I’ve learned when starting a business is to have patience. Sometimes, you wish for something to take off quickly, but it always doesn’t end up that way. The easiest thing to remind yourself is to take small steps. Once you build off one step, learn what you did, then build onto another step until you keep on climbing higher and higher. Yes, it may be a slow process for some, but it will be worth it in the long run!

What do you find most exciting about being an entrepreneur?

The most exciting part about being an entrepreneur is how many wonderful people you interact with. There are so many walks of life on this earth. Each and every person is so unique in their own way that it really puts a smile on your face. Customer interaction is such a pleasing experience and it always joys me to work with other people.

Do you think being an entrepreneur makes it easier or harder to balance your work and family responsibilities? Why?

Being an entrepreneur can work both ways when it comes to managing family responsibilities and managing a business at the same time. When business is running smoothly, it’s a breath of fresh air! I can set my own hours of when I can spend valuable time with family. Other times when some matters pertaining to my company need to be taken care of, I need to devote a little more time onto the business. The family understands and is very supportive. When you can have that kind of positive support, it is a relief that I can be motivated to get the work that needs to be done!

Do you work at an office or from home? What are the positives and negatives of this arrangement?

Currently, I’m managing online situations from home. The best advantage to this is that I am more relaxed where I am while I can oversee what is going on with my business in the comfort of my own surroundings. Sometimes, working at home can also bring the negatives. When you finally find some time for peace and you are focused on something, there always is a distraction! For instance, my dog will come up and won’t leave me alone until we have a long hour of playtime.

What other lessons can you share to other women entrepreneurs?

To all women entrepreneurs, I can simply recommend all of you to reach out to achieve your dreams and to never give up. When you give up, you are missing out on an opportunity that could land you in success and happiness. If you have an idea, go for it. You all have the power to succeed. Take that chance and make something happen. Again, when you have the power in your hands, you can mold it into something special.

How do you see your business 5 years from now?

In 5 years, I hope to see Take My Mac as the leading source of where consumers of where can trust to get the best price and quality customer service when selling their Apple devices. Apple, Inc. is a wonderful, smart, and innovative company that will continue to succeed in the future with new technology to excite the electronic market. As they grow, Take My Mac hopes to as well!
