Norine’s story is interesting: she did not start her career until later in life. A full-time housewife, she suddenly became a single parent at the age of 33. She decided to look for work, but she was stumped with the whole process of writing a resume, marketing herself to prospective employers and the whole process of looking for work. The first job she got was for a program that provided training and job search assistance to women who were transitioning from welfare to work — which set the course for her career.
Today, Norine runs her own resume writing and job search business. The secret of her success?
Unlike many of my competitors, I use a very personal and customized approach with each of my clients. I do not ask clients to complete questionnaires to provide me with information for their résumé. Instead, I conduct an initial consultation with each client (by phone or in person) and talk with them anywhere from one to two hours about their career history, the challenges they faced, the problems they solved, and what they believe to be their biggest strengths.
